With its 525 miles of shoreline, West Point Lake is a boater's paradise, with boat launches in 34 public recreation areas. Mirror-smooth waters are interrupted only occasionally by a passing boat, a diving gull or a whispering breeze. Two private marinas provide fuel, storage, repairs, rentals, supplies and other boater's needs. Whether your preference is sailing, wind surfing or power boating, West Point Lake is one of the best spots on the water in terms of lake access. And during the hotter months, nothing beats diving right in, the cool blue waters refreshing body and spirit instantly.

FISHING IN WEST POINT LAKE
West Point Lake is one of the best fishing lakes in the nation, according to Joey Mines, host of the television show Outdoors with Joey Mines. Deep below the water, large and powerful fish maneuver the underwater shoals, challenging anglers of all skill levels to try for them. You'll find spotted bass and largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish as well as hybrid striped bass, white bass, black crappie, channel catfish, and redbreast sunfish. West Point Lake was impounded in 1975 and features a number of old pond dams and other underwater structures, which still serve as powerful magnets for fish. Beneath the surface, there are also 29 miles of underwater highways. You can fish right over the roads that travelers drove during the 60s and early 70s. Before the lake was created, the region boasted its own little "fishing holes." Amazingly, these places still exist, and fish still congregate there, even though these "fishing holes" are now completely under water.
