BOATING AND FISHING
Lake Rhodhiss :
One of the finest spots for fishing in the Carolinas, this lake has the densest population of fish of all the lakes in the Catawba River chain. Spanning over 3,000 acres, Lake Rhodhiss offers tournament fishing and Bass as large as 10 pounds can be found here.
There are five boat launches and one marina on the lake. The water level of Lake Rhodhiss remains constant making it the perfect spot for leisure boating, swimming, water skiing, tubing and various other water sports.

SKIING – ABOUT ONE HOUR AWAY:
Boone, Sugar Mountain or Grandfather Mountain make wonderful destinations for skiing and mountain getaways. At these ski resorts, you'll find a variety of trails for all skill levels in the winter and horseback riding, mountain biking and various other activities in the summer. On clear days, you can actually see Sugar Mountain from the clubhouse at The Settings of Lake Rhodhiss. It is North Carolina's largest ski area and features 20 ski trails. Served by eight lifts, it features the highest vertical drop in the state.

HIKING.
South Mountains State Park - located about 30 miles away, this park offers elevations up to 3,000 feet, a waterfall that drops 80 feet and more than 40 miles of trails. South Mountain is North Carolina's largest state park. It also features equestrian camping, trout fishing, mountain biking and picnicking.
Grandfather Mountain - Visible from the clubhouse at The Settings of Lake Rhodhiss. Grandfather Mountain is the highest peak in the eastern U.S. It offers a famous mile-high swinging bridge. Grandfather Mountain has 11 trails varying in difficulty from a gentle walk in the woods to a rigorous trek across rugged peaks. It is in the backcountry that you come up against the more challenging hikes.
Table Rock State Park – Visible from the Clubhouse at the Settings of Lake Rhodhiss, Table Rock offers several hiking options:
• Pinnacle Mt. 8.4 miles 6-7 hours
• Table Rock 7.2 miles 5-6 hours
• Mill Creek 5.8 miles 5-6 hours
• Carrick Creek (kid friendly) 1.9 miles 1 hour
Mount Mitchell – Choose between a short stroll or a more extensive hike into the woods. Either choice will be rewarding as the beauty of the park is best seen from one of its many trails. A short trail beginning at the summit parking lot leads to the stone observation platform. On a clear day, visitors can see as far as 85 miles and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the Pisgah National Forest.
Chimney Rock - Just a short drive away you’ll find Chimney Rock. A 26-story elevator built inside takes you to the top of the mountain in about half a minute, for a view that stretches for 75 miles, or you can walk up the Outcropping Trail, which circumvents the elevator ride to the top. You’ll also find the .75-mile Hickory Nut Falls Trail, the .6-mile 4 Seasons Trail, the .6-mile Woodland Adventure trail of the 2-hour skyline Cliff Loop Trail.
