It chronicles the significant events of the flight of the Waldenses from the Cottian Alps of Italy to the foothills of North Carolina, where they founded Valdese.
The story of the Waldenses is vividly told in the outdoor drama, "From This Day Forward" presented by Old Colony Players each summer in the Old Colony Amphitheater in Valdese.

The city of Morganton’s downtown has restaurants, galleries, shops, parks, a movie theater and more. Residents gather on the Historic Courthouse Square during spring and summer to enjoy free Friday night concerts, and CoMMA, the City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium, offers wonderful shows and theater productions
Catawba Meadows Park
Morganton's Catawba Meadows Park is the largest city park in Western North Carolina. The complex includes a wide variety of facilities, but the focus is amateur baseball and softball facilities which will be complimented with numerous miles of existing and proposed Greenway paths; canoe, bike and raft rentals; tennis facilities; a mountain bike trail; a professional disc golf course; picnic areas and many other attractions.

Hickory - located 17 miles from Valdese:
Hickory is home to the famed Hickory Furniture Mart. Some 60% of the nation's furniture is produced within a 200-mile radius, so there are a wide selection of choices.
Hickory also has numerous historic sites and museums, music, dance and drama. There are plenty of places to go hiking and marvel at our countryside. Hickory is also a three-time winner of the ‘All-America’ city award.
